Classical Christian Education
What is Classical Education?
- It’s been around for a long time and has been proven effective. Leonardo da Vinci, William Shakespeare, Archimedes, Alexander the Great, Benjamin Franklin, Martin Luther, and Sir Isaac Newton are some examples of people who were classically educated.
- Students learn wisdom and virtue through the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty found in great works of literature, history, philosophy and science.
- It develops student’s critical thinking and reasoning skills, as well as their ability to communicate effectively, and to foster a lifelong love of learning.
- Students are equipped with HOW to learn, not just WHAT to learn.
- It follows a methodology consistent with the appropriate stage of development of a child. This method is known as the Trivium and is made up of Grammar stage, Logic stage, and Rhetoric stage:
- Grammar: During this stage, children are able to memorize and learn a large quantity of ideas and concepts; they are sponges for information. They learn the building blocks of language such as vocabulary, sentence structure, grammar rules and math facts.
- Logic: During this stage, children become more curious and are at a point in their lives where they are asking a lot of questions. They learn how to identify fallacies, how to construct arguments, and how to evaluate logic structures and arguments.
- Rhetoric: During this stage, children have their own ideas that they want to convey. They learn how to write and speak effectively, how to use language to persuade and influence others, and how to analyze the arguments of others.
Veritas Academy is a Classical Christian school and is a proud member of the Association of Classical and Christian Schools (ACCS).
