Dr. Susie Brooks is the founder and head of school at Veritas Academy. Susie founded the school after a successful career in higher education where she served in 
various teaching and leadership roles. During her career in higher education, she established a Center for Teaching and Learning, a Teaching, Learning and Technology Round Table, a graduate program at a university that did not previously have a graduate school, and she authored and taught several courses. But nothing compares to the joy she has experienced through establishing a private classical Christian school. She considers this to be her calling, and her “magnum opus”, and she has dedicated all of her life’s resources to this work.
When building a team to accomplish our extraordinary calling, we seek individuals who are not only committed to the organizational mission, but have clarity regarding their calling to be educators in a Christian school, and a passion for truth, goodness, and beauty. And their love for children must be unequivocal. These individuals must also demonstrate expertise in their field and a commitment to continued growth. In return, our commitment to our staff is to affirm them in their calling as educators, support their maturing in Christ, and empower them to be effective and productive in the classroom. (2 Peter 1: 3-11).
Steven Brooks is Susie’s husband and has been working side by side with her. They have one son who is also
classically educated and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a minor in theater. Steven is a pastor by vocation and holds masters degrees in theology and divinity, and has spent over 28 years in different ministries. His work across the human lifespan with many different groups and organizations lead to his passion for equipping children to succeed spiritually and educationally, which has been his major contribution to Veritas since its inception. His love and knowledge of history makes him a walking encyclopedia.

For students: We equip students to lead with clarity and virtue, and to become mature adults who value truth, acknowledge God’s beauty, and do good (Daniel 1:4, Ephesians 2:10).
For parents: We collaborate with them in the responsibility of educating their children. (Proverbs 22:6).
For our community: We support our great community while modeling excellence, integrity, and service to others. (Mark 10:45, Zechariah 1:17).

The Newest Team Members
Dr. Del Gray, Faculty
Dr. Gray spent twenty years as a professor of religious studies, teaching ancient history and literature of the Greco-Roman world, biblical studies, and Koine Greek. His enthusiasm for teaching has led him to connect with students in Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, India, the Philippines, Los Angeles, and Kansas. He is also an ordained pastor who has served in various churches and ministry contexts.
Martin Karanja, MA, Faculty and Administration
Martin is accomplished in bringing leadership and management consulting to high performing organizations. He is a Certified Organization Performance Index (OPI) assessor and has worked with corporations internationally, evaluating them for annual awards. He is experienced in providing high level corporate training and professional.
Dr. Nuvia Maldonado, Faculty
Dr. Maldonado brings her medical background into the classroom where she teaches students to think critically developing the discipline needed to succeed in life. Her medicine and surgery education, as well as her medical practice equipped her to lead our science department and to provide a school-wide vision for our science education.
Dr. Esther Kiarie, Faculty and Administration
Dr. Kiarie has more than 20 years experience in curriculum development, program management, psycho-social consulting, and counseling. Her Doctorate in Ministry focused on congregation and family care, and it has contributed to her success in strengthening relationships between God and people through mentorship and spiritual formation of children in church and schools.
Givi Sarkisian, DCS/DEC., Faculty and Director
Givi is recognized by the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) as an internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and educator with extraordinary abilities. Givi takes an individual approach for each student and selects the most suitable musical instrument based on the strengths of each student. He studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, majoring as an orchestra artist, and music teacher.
Joy Lee, MA, Faculty
Joy is a PK (Pastor’s Kid) and a minister herself, having earned an MA in theological studies. As an educator, her passion is history, geography, language arts and music. She also worked as a Korean, Spanish and English translator for more than 20 years. She brings plenty of experience as a global educator with intercultural competency.
Irina Pervushina, BSc, Faculty
Irina holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and engineering, and over 20 years ministry experience together with her husband, serving with The Navigators. Her passion is to invest in children and instill in them the love of learning from a Biblical worldview. Her background gave her the opportunity to teach calligraphy and art, and her teaching style wins the hearts of children and brings joy in learning.
